High ambush

There is a 4,773-hectare nature conservation area on the border of the village, which preserves the remains of the ancient flora and fauna of the saline steppes. Valuable, rare species live on the mosaic-like remnants of primeval grass. Of the bird species observed here, about 90 nest here, many of which are rare European-wide birds of prey. One of the special species of animals is the gray cattle, which still inhabits the steppe with its ancient, proud behavior.

Ókígyósi Lipica Golden Stud

In the 1800s, József Antal Wenckheim founded the first Ókígyós Aranyménes with Arabian horses. In 2004, József Balogh, the mayor of Szabadkígyós, bought seven Lipica mares, which became the foundation of the second stud, which now consists of 36 horses. This breed is especially valuable because they are intelligent, easy to train and known as horses of splendor. The elegant horses are also offered for sale to breeders and competitors, but anyone can admire the stallion, occasionally foals can be seen among the mares. The Ókígyós Aranyménes was also included in the settlement's treasury.

Wenkheim Parking lot

At the entrance of the Wenkcheim Castle, the Municipality of Szabadkígyós has created a paid parking lot with 79 spaces for 77 cars and 2 buses. There is also an electric charging station in the parking lot. Under the shady trees, tables and benches serve to rest the weary hiker. The parking road leads to the most important architectural masterpiece of Szabadkígyós, the Wenckheim Castle and its park.

To the south of Szabadkígyós lies the Szabadkígyós Landscape Protection District, which includes the "Nagyerdő", the "Kígyósi pasture" and the "Nagygyöp", a mosaic structure of saline loess steppe created by the filled river branches of the Ÿ-Maros, which is now the habitat of rare desert plant and animal species. The Kígyósi main channel passes through here. In addition to their special impact on the landscape, the so-called kurgans, the so-called kurgans, which are mostly considered to be from the Copper Age, are shelters for rare steppe plants.

Szabadkígyós Cycling Rest

By renovating and widening the existing 2,900-meter bicycle path in the interior of Szabadkígyós to two meters, the residents of the settlement can cycle in better conditions. The existing cycle path has been extended with a new section of 220 meters in length, thanks to which you can reach the Arc de Triomphe on two wheels. At the same time, the inland section of the Wenckheim cycle path, which ends in Szabadkígyós, will be joined in Kastély utca with the creation of a bicycle path and the renovation of the affected road surface in a length of 400 meters.

Thematic Playground

The playground in the center of the settlement is a favorite place for the children of the village, both young and old. Due to the proximity of the crèche, the kindergarten and the school, on a pleasant afternoon the playgrounds are filled with children swinging, sandboxing, and sliding, while parents who pay attention to the little things can relax and chat next to the benches and tables in the square. When choosing play equipment, safety was an important aspect, but also that every age group could find a play equipment suitable for their age.
